About Me
Vinaya is a storyteller at heart, currently honing her craft as a graduate student in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. With a passion for truth, accountability and community connection, she has developed a wide-ranging portfolio that spans field reporting, political journalism and investigative storytelling.
Before arriving in Syracuse, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication from North Carolina A&T State University, with a minor in marketing—an intentional combination that reflects her belief in the power of both storytelling and strategy.
In Syracuse, she has reported on a range of critical local issues, including the Hands Off protest and the Tax Justice rally, with a focus on community-led initiatives and social impact. Her work includes an investigative report on Sam Nordquist, in which she delivers a credible, in-depth story. She also covered the reconstruction of I-81, which allowed her to translate infrastructure policy into accessible reporting that resonates with everyday people.
Vinaya’s dedication to reporting led her to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she covered the 2024 election, interviewing voters and exploring the issues shaping national discourse. Throughout this time, she managed three jobs to fund her education, which is a testament to her drive, resilience, and commitment to journalism.
She has served as both reporter and anchor for Mornings on the Hill, a live, student-run newscast that replicates the pace and pressure of a professional newsroom. There, she sharpened her on-camera presence, editorial judgment, and live reporting skills while learning to write and deliver broadcasts under deadline.
In fall 2024, Vinaya interned at NewsChannel 9’s Bridge Street in Syracuse, contributing to daily show production, writing stories and working closely with anchors and guests. She also interned with Our National Conversation, covering digital political news, and worked simultaneously as a studio facilitator and research assistant.
Whether behind the camera, in the field, or at the anchor desk, Vinaya brings creativity, focus, and a can-do spirit to every assignment. She thrives in fast-paced environments, excels under pressure, and is always ready to pitch in, speak up, and tell stories that matter.
